    1. Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Soup Kitchen. Unfortunately, your daughter is too young. All our volunteers must be 18 years old or over. However, we do have a number of young people who, together with their families, want to help those less fortunate than themselves. There are a number of ways that you could help and work together. Have you had a look at our website, at the DONATE tab? You could collect tins of food or bake. It’s a nice activity to do together and our gusts are always grateful for home baking. it is nice for them to know that people do care about them.

    1. Hi Samantha,
It’s very kind of you to think of donating to the Soup Kitchen. We, too, hate unnecessary waste.
There is a problem with us however, in that we are only open four days a week. We don’t normally accept left over food as we cannot be sure of the temperature it has been kept at and for how long especially if the food is from the weekend.
For your food from today, it would depend what it is. We accept unopened packets of bread, cake or similar if they will still be in date on our next opening day. In this case that would be tomorrow If you have any uncooked food that is still frozen and has not been refrozen we coud accept that. If it has been defrosted or is fresh we would need to know how it has been stored between the BBQ and when you donate.
We have to be very careful as our guests often have poor immune systems and food poisoning would be very serious for them.
You might also try the foodbanks. There are several in Southport…. Shoreside church in Mornington Rd, Trussel Trust on Marine Drive, and there is one in Ainsdale, although I am not sure where.
What sort of food are we talking about from today?

  1. Thank you for your reply.
I understand completely. The cooked food has been called and stored in a mobile refrigeration unit. It is all halal and I have 20+ beef and chicken burgers. 20+ lamb kofta. 20+ chicken sausages and 5kg roasted vegetables.
I also have 6 Iceberg lettuce. 3kg tomatoes. 5kg red onions. 2 bags of kale. 2 large bags of baby spinach and a box of 48 hotdog rolls.

I always have a surplus of vegetables and salad items during the summer and we are happy to deliver on a Sunday morning if these can be of use. I will keep in mind for future your opening days.

      1. Hiya. We will happily drop off in the am. I am so grateful. And yes the food will be ok to serve tomorrow indeed. I am even more than happy to loan you some chafing dishes for the day if you would like to heat it and put it out as a bit of a buffet for your clients.

I will drop off some sweets and crisps that I have left over which you could give to the children. Please let me know what time we can drop off and I will get them as early as possible.

    1. Hello Mrs Iddon,

Thank you so much fo your kind thoughts towards our guests at the Soup Kitchen. We hate food waste too. owever, we are closed now for the Christmas period so cannot make use of the veg you have offered. Our guests are looked after at Alchemy, which is behind Parenting 2000 on Mornington Road. They are open until 4pm over each of the next few days and they would probably be grateful for the food.

      Best wishes,

      SSK

  2. Hello, I wonder if you can use two large pans? I used them from my farmers market soup days and hate to throw them out, happy to donate. Also, I have the following, unopened available to donate:
250 x white paper cup container heavy duty (12oz)
500 x white paper cup container heavy duty (8oz)
    And, approx 500 x 2oz J cups
Let me know if they would be of use.
    Regards
    Sharon

    1. Hi Susan, sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your knees but hopefully you will be better soon.
We are primarily a charity for the homeless. If you are homeless we would try to help you with some vouchers but that probably won’t be a help if you are having mobility issues.
If you are on Facebook there are several Covid help groups in Southport that could probably help you. Also many supermarkets and local shops have been delivering food for some time now. The local shops will probably take your order over the telephone.
I hope this helps. Get back to us if you are homeless.

      Best wishes,
      Southport Soup Kitchen

    1. Hi Janice

Many thanks for your message and kind offer. Unfortunately the soup kitchen no longer has freezers so we are unable to store frozen food. If you have room to store them until next Saturday when we are next open, we would be very grateful of them. The can be dropped of to the soup kitchen between 11.30 & 12.30.

Thanks once again and kind Regards SSK

      1. Hi Janice,

As there’s so many of them I think we would struggle to be able to cook them all alongside the other food we have to cook on the day. I would hate them to go to waste so can I suggest instead that you offer them to New Start (which is the night shelter for homeless). They are based at 40-42 Leyland Road Tel 01704 547741
Thanks again for thinking of us 🙂
